Aviation and Aerospace

Hand Arendall’s Aviation and Aerospace team has been, and continues to be, at the forefront of recruiting companies in the industry to Alabama and the Gulf Coast region. Our team regularly assists aviation and aerospace clients with business and transactional, regulatory, and litigation matters associated with their operations. The firm’s relationships with local and state government and economic development entities offer the unique opportunity for the firm to assist companies in the aerospace and aviation sectors.

Hand Arendall lawyers, including former Congressman Jack Edwards, have been closely involved in efforts to recruit new aerospace companies to Alabama area, including the effort to bring both the EADS tanker program and the Airbus A-320 final assembly line to Mobile. In addition, Mr. Edwards experience in the industry also includes service on corporate boards including Northrop Grumman Corporation and The Aerospace Corporation.

“Hand Arendall has a long history of promoting economic development in our State,” said Roger Bates, managing lawyer of the firm. “We are proud to be working with those involved to bring business to Alabama.”

The lawyers in the Aviation and Aerospace Practice Area are involved and experienced in the following areas of the field:

Site Location and Incentives

Our attorneys have experience assisting those in the aviation and aerospace industry with negotiating contracts with governmental bodies, securing governmental approval and funding for projects, pursuing clients’ interests in connection with pending legislation, securing local permits and favorable interpretations of local regulations. Our team has advised numerous companies concerning available development, location, workforce and other assistance from state and local governments. Our firm co-authored the Alabama Commercial Aviation Business Improvement Act of 2013, which provides tort legislation protection similar to that in other states to manufacturers of commercial aviation aircraft and their component parts.

Business and Transactional Issues

Members of the team assist clients with issues including incorporation, licensing, taxation, contracting, import/export, and intellectual property issues. They also have experience with assisting clients with construction and public contract issues including leasing and real estate acquisition, along with environmental issues. The group has significant experience in public and private finance. The group also regularly advises clients with regard to employment matters including employment contracts and immigration issues that may arise.

Litigation Issues

Our team has significant experience working with clients to handle mass tort, product liability and insurance coverage issues relating to the aviation industry. We regularly represent clients in all types of business and commercial disputes, including contract litigation, trade secret and non-competition litigation, fraud claims and other commercial claims. Our practice also includes defending clients frequently in employment and workers compensation cases.
