Norman Stockman is a member of the firm’s Litigation and Admiralty Sections. He currently serves as chairman of the firm's Admiralty Section and Construction and Public Contracts Practice Group. Norman represents businesses and individuals in general commercial litigation, construction litigation, bankruptcy litigation, and maritime transactions and litigation. Norman has extensive trial and courtroom experience, having handled jury and non-jury trials in state and federal court, as well as arbitrations and mediations. He also writes and speaks on litigation and admiralty-related topics, and has made presentations to the Maritime Law Association of the United States, Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, the Sea Grant Law Center/University of Mississippi Center for Continuing Legal Education, and the International Association of Marine Investigators, among others.
Norman is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Alabama and Mississippi, and is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida and the Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals.
Norman is active in a number of professional and trade organizations, including the Maritime Law Association of the United States (Chair, Young Lawyers Committee, 2013-2015; Board of Directors, 2017-present); Mobile Bar Association (Chair, Admiralty Section, 2011-2012); Propeller Club of the United States, Port of Mobile (President, 2013-2015; Board of Governors, 2007-2015; Advisory Committee, 2015-present); Alabama State Bar Young Lawyers Section Executive Committee (2003-2010); Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute (Board of Directors, 2007-2008); the American Waterways Operators; and the American Bankruptcy Institute. He is also a 2005 graduate of the International Association of Defense Counsel Trial Academy.
Norman is listed in Best Lawyers and has been selected to Alabama Rising Stars by Super Lawyers magazine in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. He also was named to the Mobile Bay 40 Under 40 Class of 2011 and is a member of Leadership Mobile’s Class of 2013.
