Lisa Van Wagner is a member of the firm’s litigation section where her practice focuses on representing clients in insurance defense, including the defense of first-party, third-party and extra-contractual, personal injury defense and employment related litigation. Lisa has over 20 years of diversified experience advising both domestic and international clients at all levels on issues of legal strategy and business policy. She has served in a wide range of positions in both private practice as well as in-house counsel roles.
Prior to joining Hand Arendall, Lisa worked as corporate counsel in the oil and gas industry and the financial services industry in Houston, Texas for over eight years. She served as international counsel for one of the world’s largest methanol production companies in West Africa, where she led both in-house and external legal teams in all global litigation, arbitrations, antitrust matters, and FCPA compliance.
Lisa grew up in Elmore County, Alabama. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Auburn University where she majored in political science and English. Lisa received her law degree from Thomas Goode Jones School of Law of Faulkner University where she was a member of Phi Alpha Delta. Following law school, she practiced in Montgomery for over 10 years specializing in civil defense litigation and employment related matters. Lisa has successfully defended clients in nearly every county in the State of Alabama.
Lisa’s professional affiliations include Birmingham Bar Association, Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, Defense Research Institute, Energy & Mineral Law Foundation, and Sports Lawyers Association. She was also a certified contract advisor with the National Football League Player Association (NFLPA) from 2003 through 2007. Lisa is a life member of the Auburn Alumni Association and has served on numerous advisory committees for the organization. She received the national award as Most Outstanding Club Leader in 2004 for her contributions to the Association as President of the Montgomery Auburn Club.
Lisa has served in numerous capacities with the Alabama State Bar including: Board of Editors for the Alabama Lawyer, Committee to Draft Alabama Bar Examination Essay Questions, Chairman of Admissions Ceremony Committee, and the Executive Committee of Young Lawyers Section. She has served as a speaker at CLE seminars on issues of employment law and civil litigation for the Alabama Bar Institute for Continuing Legal Education, National Business Institute, Auburn University’s Center for Governmental Services and Troy University.
